Condolence Messages

From Farooq Tariq

Labour Party, Pakistan

A letter of protest from Pakistan,

We condemn the state sponsored killing of comrade Mahendra Singh of CPI (ML), elected member of legislative assembly (MLA), in Jharkhand. We in Pakistan are shocked to hear the news.

Comrade Singh was a working class hero not only in Jharkhand but all over Indian subcontinent. From the evidences available so far, it is clear that the local superintendent of police (SP) of Giridih District, Deepak Verma, was consciously posted in Giridih District by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government to see to it that Comrade Mahendra Singh did not enter the Jharkhand Assembly again.

Comrade Mahendra Singh had expressed an apprehension on the floor of the House that there was a threat to his life from the SP, Deepak Verma.

We demand an immediate removal of the SP and to register a murder case against the SP. We demand an immediate formulation of an enquiry commission of CBI to investigate the whole incident.

We demand that The Election Commission of India take cognisance of the murder and order dismissal of SP Deepak Verma, as well as send a team of central observers to ensure the conduct of free and fair elections in constituencies of Giridih, particularly the sensitive constituency of Bagodar, since Mahendra Singh had not only been a most popular legislator, winning 3 consecutive terms, but had been the voice of democratic opposition in Jharkhand.

We demand that the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) send a high-level team to the area to investigate the cases of human rights violations at the hands of this notorious SP and forces which have been actively patronising his activities in the region to throttle the voice of democratic protest against oppression of the common people that was represented by Mahendra Singh.

We want to make it absolute clear that we in Pakaistan will organise a protest demonstration in front of Indian High Comission in Islamabad and also in Lahore if our demands are not met till 30th January 2005.

The working class in Pakistan will not sit quiet on this brutal murder of a comrade whose has spent all his life for the betterment of the working class in India.

Sincerely,

Farooq Tariq

Comrades

It is a great shock to us on learning the killing of Comrade Mahendra Singh. We had met him on several occasions and he always came out to us as a dedicated member of the Party and a leader who commanded respect and admiration of all members and workers. Many people known to us in Jharkhand from other associations like the literacy movement, had tremendous admiration for him as a militant and visionary political activist. Our heartfelt condolence to all party members and his family members.

Regards

Feroz

Shame!

The hired assassin who shot trade-union leader Shankar Guha Niyogi was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court, while the 6 industrialists who actually hired the killer have been acquitted!

Niyogi, Datta Samant, Chandrashekhar, Mahendra Singh ….

We’ll uphold your legacy and avenge your murder!
