Red Salute to Comrade Shankar Das

Liberation mourns the untimely demise of Comrade Shankar Das who passed away in the evening of November 22 after a severe heart attack at Jalpaiguri.

Comrade Das, 55, was the Secretary of Jalpaiguri District Committee in West Bengal and a member of the West Bengal State Committee. He had been the CPI(ML) candidate from Jalpaiguri in the last Lok Sabha elections.

Comrade Shankar Das was among those senior-most members of the Party who had witnessed and participated in the Party’s life ever since the first phase of Naxalbari movement. He was a very popular trade union leader in his region, and had led many struggles of Tea garden workers, agrarian labourers and motor union workers. Even on the last day, when he suffered the fatal heart stroke, he was busy making the Party’s Bangal Bandh call a success.

We pay our sincere tributes to Comrade Shankar Das, and his revolutionary spirit will always be with us to inspire us.

Red Salute to Comrade Shankar Das!
