A wave of demolition in KG Halli, Central Bengaluru, on November 3 left more than a hundred families without shelter after over thirty buildings were razed to the ground. The demolition was carried out despite residents holding valid documents including electricity and water bills, house papers, and SC/ST certificates. The demolitions took place without proper notice or rehabilitation measures, leaving families, including children and elderly persons, stranded amidst the rubble. When the residents protested against the demolition, they were reportedly brutally assaulted by personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Student activists of the AISA visited the area and extended solidarity to the affected people. AISA condemned the eviction drive and the police violence, calling it a cruel attack on poor and working-class families who have been living in the area for decades.
AISA demanded immediate rehabilitation and fair compensation for all the displaced families.
