CPI(ML) Liberation condemns the arbitrary suspension of 11 students by the Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) Karampura administration and its attempts to suppress student dissent through violence, intimidation and punitive action. The administration’s crackdown followed a 17-day indefinite sit-in at the university’s Karampura campus, organised by the AUD Students’ Council (AUDSC) from September 28 to demand basic student necessities, administrative accountability and democratic rights.
For 17 consecutive days, councillors and students continued their peaceful protest against the administration’s authoritarian conduct and the systemic neglect of the university. Their charter of demands addressed the ongoing infrastructural crisis, urgent faculty recruitment, complete withdrawal of the draconian circulars issued on July 31, reinstatement of the PhD fee waiver, student representation in all decision-making bodies, and the removal of iron gates to reopen the main entrance.
On the night of October 13, the 16th day of the sit-in, the administration resorted to violence against students whose only offence was organising a screening of Anand Patwardhan’s acclaimed documentary Jai Bhim Comrade at the Wall of Democracy.
The following night, October 14, the administration brought in heavy police and paramilitary forces, including CRPF personnel, to forcibly evict the protesting students. Students were dragged away, their tents and protest materials were thrown out, and suspension letters were issued to 11 students at 8 pm without show-cause notices, a prior proctorial inquiry or any opportunity to defend themselves.
The administration fabricated pretexts to accuse students of vandalism, citing CCTV footage that it refused to share, while withholding details of the alleged incidents mentioned in the suspension letters.
CPI(ML) Liberation demands the immediate and unconditional revocation of all 11 suspensions, the reopening of campus gates, an end to police presence inside university spaces, and a full inquiry into the violence against students and accountability for the officials responsible.
