CPIML MP Demands Urgent Action Against Online Harassment of Women Advocating Peace

Harassment of Women Advocating Peace

In a letter dated 6 May 2025 to the Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, and the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, Raja Ram Singh, CPI(ML) Member of Parliament from Karakat (Bihar), has demanded immediate action against the online harassment and trolling of women who advocate peace, compassion, and constitutional values.

The letter, specifically draws attention to the online hate campaign targeting Himanshi Narwal, the widow of a soldier killed in the Pahalgam terrorist attack, and Shaila Negi, a young woman who recently stood up to a communal mob in Nainital. Both women, Com. Raja Ram notes, are facing “toxic social media propaganda and threats” merely for calling out hate and advocating for communal harmony.

Himanshi Narwal, even while coping with personal tragedy, publicly urged the public not to direct their anger at Kashmiris or Muslims, appealing instead for peace and justice. Rather than being supported, she has become the subject of "vicious online harassment and venomous trolling".

Likewise, Shaila Negi ‘s principled stand against hate-mongering in her city has drawn a similarly vicious backlash online.

Calling the situation a matter of “grave national concern”, the CPI(ML) MP condemned the campaigns as a reflection of the failure of online safety systems and a betrayal of India's constitutional values. He referred to the online harassment as “digital mob-lynching” and urged authorities to act decisively.

"This is not just a question of online abuse," Com. Raja Ram stated, "but of the very soul of our democracy. When those who speak for peace are hounded and vilified, it is a direct attack on constitutional morality."

Com. Raja Ram has called for urgent action against the perpetrators of these hate-driven campaigns and demanded full support and protection for “conscientious women who courageously speak out against communal hatred and divisive frenzy.”
