CPIML MP Raja Ram Singh Demands Withdrawal of Proposed Sale of ITI Land in Bengaluru

CPI(ML) Liberation Lok Sabha MP Raja Ram Singh has demanded the immediate withdrawal of the Union Government’s proposal to sell 44.03 acres of land belonging to Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) Ltd. in K.R. Puram, Bengaluru, under its land monetisation policy. The letter to the Union Minister for Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy on October 21, 2026, called for a comprehensive revival package for ITI, India’s first public sector undertaking (PSU), instead of the sale of its valuable land.

Raja Ram Singh pointed out that land acquired or allotted at concessional rates for a defined public purpose cannot be converted into a commercial real estate asset. He strongly opposed the reported plan to use the proceeds from the proposed sale to repay loans and clear statutory and employee liabilities, arguing that workers must not be made to pay for the failures of governments and management by selling the very assets on which their livelihoods depend.

Questioning the continued reliance on the sale of public assets to clear liabilities while large corporations benefit from concessions, write-offs and restructuring, he warned that land monetisation must not become a backdoor route to privatisation. He stressed that ITI’s financial difficulties must be addressed through technological modernisation, expansion and secure employment, rather than stripping the enterprise of its productive assets.
Raja Ram Singh called on the Union Government to scrap the proposed sale, provide adequate financial support to meet ITI’s dues and facilitate its expansion. He also emphasised the need to protect the enterprise’s open spaces for public purposes, underlining that the issue concerns not only workers’ livelihoods but also India’s industrial heritage and the future of public-sector industry.
