Mass Public Meeting Held in Kumbakonam Demanding House Site Pattas and Addressing Rural Unemployment

Mass Public Meeting Held in Kumbakonam

As part of the "going to the masses" decided by the Tamil Nadu State Committee, a month-long campaign among the rural poor of Thanjavur district was conducted by CPI(ML) and AIARLA on 30 June.

Rural distress was glaring and housing right was the burning issue apart from unemployment. MGNREGA is almost inoperative as the Union government is not releasing funds. Also, peasants are reeling under poverty as agriculture is not remunerative. People are under the clutches of microfinance debts. Tenant cultivators of vast agricultural land belonging to temples and maths are deprived of their rights.

On the other hand, Hindutva forces are working overtime to polarise people on communal lines utilising the situation.
CPI(ML)'s call for a mass meeting with the slogan of "protecting peasants of Delta" was well received and hundreds of peasants, agricultural labourers, rural poor with a good number of women from many villages rallied to the public meeting. Meeting also called upon the people of Tamil Nadu to defeat the anti-people BJP - AIADMK alliance in the 2026 assembly elections.

District Committee Member Com. Mathiyazhagan presided over the meeting and it was addressed by Com. V. Shankar, PBM, who called upon all walks of people to rally in the streets to make the July 9th All India strike a grand success. Com. Balasundaram, CCM, Com. Kumarasamy, Advisor, CP, Com. Asaithambi, State Secretary and Com. Kannaiyan, District Secretary also addressed the meeting. Com. Valathan, SCM, was on the dais.
