Preparations to Strip 2.25 Lakh Poor off Ration Cards in Nalanda on the Basis of SIR List

CPI(ML) Bihar State Secretary Kunal has strongly condemned reports regarding preparations to remove the names of approximately 2.25 lakh PDS beneficiaries from their ration cards in Nalanda district, citing the SIR (Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls) list as the basis. He termed this move anti-poor, unjust, and contrary to the spirit of the Constitution.

For any poor family, a ration card serves as the most critical link survival from hunger, using the Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR) as the pretext for mass deletions of names is not merely an act of administrative arbitrariness; it is a step that pushes lakhs of needy families toward hunger and insecurity.

He further noted that of late, the SIR list is also being used as the basis for issuing caste and domicile certificates which is deeply concerning. This is a direct attack on people's fundamental rights as a flawed SIR list cannot be treated as a "master record". Comrade Kunal questions the state government if an individual's name does not appear in the SIR list, does that mean they cease to be a citizen? Is it just to deprive them of their ration, identity, and other rights?

The CPI(ML) has demanded the process of removing names from ration cards based on the SIR list must be halted immediately, and names that have already been removed must be reinstated without delay. The entire process must undergo a transparent review, and affected individuals must be granted a full opportunity to appeal.

The CPI(ML) warned that if this anti-poor decision is not revoked, the party will launch a statewide agitation from the streets to the legislative assembly.
