Thousands of Sanitation workers of Chennai led by Uzhaippor Urimai Iyakkam (Toilers Rights Movement), affiliated to LTUC-AICCTU, relentlessly carry forward their struggle for justice demanding status-quo of their status of employment and the intervention of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to end the impasse and to amicably settle the issues of workers.
The day long Hunger Strike by thousands of sanitation workers, on 86th day of denial of employment, 25 oct, attracted the attention of the media, trade unionists and the public. State Leaders of CPI, CPIM, CPIML and VCK joined to greet the struggle in addition to Tamizhaka Vazhvurimai Katchi (Tamil Nadu Party of Livelihood Rights), Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (Humanist People's Party), SDPI and RSP.
Comrade SS Balaji, MLA of VCK inaugurated the hunger strike while it was ended by comrade Shanmugam, the state secretary of CPIM. Comrade Asaithambi, the state secretary of CPIML Liberation addressed the protesters and demanded the intervention of the Chief Minister MK Stalin to settle the workers problems. Comrade Kumarasami, the Advisor of AICCTU addressed the protesters while the state president of AICCTU presided over the programme.
Mr Hari Paranthaman, a retired judge of Madras High Court also joined extending support. AICCTU stands in complete solidarity with the struggling workers.
