Comrade Shashi Prasad Jha passed away today at the age of 93 on September 4, 2026. From his student days, he was deeply influenced by Marxism and became a part-time worker of the undivided CPI.He completed his MSc in Botany from Patna Science College and worked there for a few years before becoming a teacher of Biology at the then finest educational institution in the region, the District School. He taught at District Schools in Darbhanga, Dumka and Chaibasa, and finally in Banka.
Later, after moving to Dumka, he joined the CPI(M) in 1978 and began conducting Marxist political education among workers of the Employees' Federation in the then Santhal Pargana district.
Following the split in the Federation, he played an important role in bringing the Gope faction into the Indian People’s Front (IPF) stream. He subsequently became a member of CPI(ML) Liberation and helped bring several workers of the Federation’s Gope faction into the party.
A serious and dedicated reader of the party newspaper and literature, he remained deeply engaged in political discussion and debate throughout his life. Even in his advanced years, Comrade Shashi Prasad Jha remained firmly committed to the party and its revolutionary politics.
CPI(ML) Liberation pays revolutionary homage to Comrade Shashi Prasad Jha. His long life of commitment to Marxism, political education, teaching and the communist movement will remain an inspiration to comrades and future generations.
