CPIML Mourns Passing of Renowned Photographer Raghu Rai

CPI(ML) Liberation has expressed deep sorrow at the passing of world-renowned photographer Raghu Rai, terming his demise a significant loss to the worlds of art, culture and public consciousness.

In a statement, the party’s said that Raghu Rai was a sensitive and exceptional creative figure whose work captured the depth and diversity of Indian society. Through his camera, he documented nature, everyday life, social realities and democratic struggles with rare insight and commitment, bringing Indian photography global recognition and stature.

Recalling his contributions during the JP Movement (Bihar movement of 1974), the party noted that Raghu Rai’s photography powerfully recorded the massive outpouring of people on the streets, the surge of youth participation, the anti-authoritarian public sentiment and the widespread aspiration for restoration of democracy. His images from that period continue to stand not merely as photographs but as living historical documents of India’s democratic struggles. His lifelong dedication to art and his encouragement to younger generations will remain an enduring source of inspiration.

CPIML paid heartfelt tributes to Raghu Rai and extended its deepest condolences to his family members, friends and all those associated with the world of art and culture.
